The FAD1101X-F085 is a high performance automotive ignition gate driver IC designed to directly control an ignition IGBT in modern spark ignition systems. It manages the complete coil charging and spark delivery process by regulating coil current, protecting the IGBT, and communicating diagnostic information back to the engine control unit (ECU). The device integrates an input spike filter, programmable maximum dwell?time control, current limit functionality, and a hard shutdown mechanism to ensure safe operation under all conditions.
Coil charging is initiated when the input signal is driven high, enabling the gate driver output. The IC actively limits the IGBT collector current using an external sense resistor, and provides real?time current status through its IGF (Ignition Feedback) flag output. A programmable Max Dwell Timer—configured via an external capacitor—prevents excessive coil saturation by automatically shutting down the IGBT if the input remains active too long. Following a dwell?timeout event, the device requires a valid low-to-high input sequence before operation can resume.
Additional protection features include over voltage shutdown, ground shift tolerance of ±1.5 V, and comprehensive filtering of input transients shorter than 13 µs. The device supports operation from 4–28 V (coil switching) or 6–28 V (full functionality) and is qualified for harsh automotive environments with an operating junction temperature up to 150°C. The SOIC8 package is Pb free and fully RoHS compliant.
This highly integrated driver IC is ideal for automotive ignition systems, small engine ignition modules, industrial spark?ignition engines, and ECU based ignition diagnostics, where precise control, robust protection, and reliable spark generation are required.
