Inductive Encoders provide an excellent solution for position sensing within industrial applications. Using the coupling between inductive coils on a rotor and stator allows for contactless encoder solutions that are not dependent on a single reference point for determining the rotor position. Inductive encoder sensor accuracy is not affected by temperature change or contaminants such as dust, oil, water, and metal particles. This technology allows for a very robust encoder system that can meet the challenges of harsh industrial environments. Inductive encoders also have the ability to discriminate between vibration and rotation. With cutting-edge sensor design principles, an inductive encoder can reach sub-50 arcsec accuracies when paired with an onsemi NCS32100. The NCS32100 leverages the strengths of inductive encoding to provide absolute positioning over a wide range of speed with several useful features such as backup battery options, self-calibration, and programmable interfacing using the integrated ARM® M0+ MCU.
