Event Description

Electromechanical circuit breakers have been the de-facto solution for protecting electrical systems, but they do have limitations such as reaction times and wearout mechanisms. As the market shifts toward mission critical new energy applications such as EV Charging, solar, and energy storage, these systems may benefit from faster protection. Choosing reliable and robust solutions are key to building long lasting systems and will reduce overall costs compared to using mechanical relays.

Wide bandgap semiconductors such as SiC MOSFETs are preferred choice used in the Solid State Circuit Breakers (SSCBs) over Si semiconductors because of their advantages including lower on-resistance, faster current protection, smaller form factor along with lowest conduction losses. Because of ruggedness, fast switching along with reliability, SiC based solution will be a great choice to design the SSCBs.
